Adolescent Girls and the Magazine Effect

"Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly." That is just one of the many helpful suggestions drummed into Baz Luhrmann's Sunscreen Song (which is originally an essay written by Mary Schmich). That is also one of the pieces of advice found in the song that are certainly never followed.

Most teenage girls surely have read, or at the very least have flipped through, the pages of some popular fashion and beauty magazines that today: Seventeen, Vogue, Cosmo, etc. It has been claimed, however, that reading these kinds of magazines does make young readers somehow feel ugly.

Operation: Perfection

Looks. This is what these magazines seem to prioritize. Take even just a single glance at the cover of one of these magazines and anyone will notice that flooding it are headlines such as dress to impress, be a knockout and lose that extra weight. Most of the articles inside the pages also typically revolve around making oneself look good and more beautiful. But, what does being beautiful mean anyway? If we take out its definition according to what is shown on these magazines, being beautiful apparently means being equal to tall, fair and skinny girls with straight long locks of hair. But what about those who don't fall on this group?

The importance being placed on the appearance is not only seen on the contents of the articles of those magazines. More pages are apparently allotted to advertisements which usually also showcase the typical teen as someone with perfect and polished looks.

However, it isn't entirely the fault of these magazines. Teenagers will naturally be bombarded with self-esteem issues, whether they read beauty magazines or not. Though only by looking at the pages of these magazines, which constantly tell them at an early age that their bodies are not good enough and that they need continuous enhancement, their attitude towards their bodies are worsened to the point that they do not only have low self-esteem but hatred towards themselves.

Body Image Issues

Studies show that looking at thin, sexualized and digitally-enhanced images of women on magazines, more often than not, result to young girls' experiences of poor body image, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. A five-year study also found that reading beauty and fashion magazines is associated with wanting to lose weight and initiating diets. Reading dieting advice in magazines is associated with skipping meals, smoking, vomiting and using laxatives among teenage girls.

Their bodies seem to become the "personal project" of young girls. They are encouraged to see themselves as objects, to value themselves for their looks rather than as a whole person. What is even more sad is how some girls end up risking their health in aspiring to look like the unattainable images of models and celebrities on the magazines. What these girls don't know--or probably refuse to know--is that what they see on these magazines is not reality; the images of those Barbie-ish models and celebrities are apparently photoshopped. Moreover, they do not represent the ordinary teenage girl.

Be a Filter Master

Adolescent girls do not need to completely stop reading beauty and fashion magazines. After all, no matter how these magazines affect girls negatively, one could not also deny the fact that these are able to help in several ways, especially with the inspiring and empowering articles that these magazines offer as well.

What teenagers must learn to do instead is to identify, among the countless images and ideas that they are fed, which ones to nurture and which to not. Nobody would surely want more girls, due to major mishaps, piling up and waiting to be treated by nurses and physicians with various medical instruments and home healthcare products. This can be avoided, especially if teens keep in mind that beauty really is only skin deep anyway. Cliché, yes, but true.

Finding Magazines to Read Online

Earlier, if you wanted to subscribe to a magazine, the only way was to go and purchase one, fill out the subscription slip which was attached inside and post it along with your check. The magazine would then start arriving at your residence from the next month of circulation. Many times, the check would get misplaced and the entire procedure would have to be repeated.

But now, all you have to do is log on to the Internet, go to the site of your favorite magazine and start reading or downloading after giving your credit card number. The subscription charges are automatically deducted from your balance. No check to be posted and no waiting for the magazine to arrive by mail.

Many magazines are also available for free on the Internet. A quick search on Google will provide you with a number of sites where you can read or download magazines for free. An online magazine not only provides you more information on any topic you like, but also provides you new information on any subject you might want to learn about, and that too, in minutes. So, for example, if you would like to import a product and you want to know the product's availability in China or Germany, with just a few clicks you can have all the information at your fingertips. This can be really helpful in your business.

For your leisure, too, online magazines can be very helpful. For example, you can learn a lot about maintaining your health and also about various diseases and their cures over the Internet. However, it is best to use this information as a base and not depend on it completely. Thanks to the Internet, you can read all types of magazines available throughout the world, unlike traditional stores where you may find only local magazines.

Online books and magazines are getting popular by the day because you can download and read the magazines at your convenience. There are many practical advantages to reading magazines online. First of all, you save a lot of space, since you no longer need space to store your magazines. All the magazines can be stored in the hard disk of your computer. Secondly, you do not have to worry about disposing off old magazines, just press 'delete'. You also save trees from getting chopped down to make your favorite magazine, and you need have no worries about the old magazines getting infested with bugs either. The only fun you may miss out is that you cannot curl up in bed with your laptop or desktop. But that invention, too, might not be too far off.

So, go ahead, surf the net. There are many sites which offer free magazines and many other sites which can provide you monthly e-magazines. Keep your credit card ready and start reading your favorite magazine online.

Sport Magazine - How To Choose Your Ideal Ones

There is a very simple initial question of what you would want to see or to read in our favourite sport magazine. No matter what kind of sport that you love. I believe that most of people have at least one favourite sport magazine, which depends on what type of sport that they love. But wait for a second! Let's think about the time that you are reading those sport magazine and tell me if you have some kinds of this question:

1) Do you think that magazine has to much advertisement?

2) Do you think some section on that magazine is totally a wasted, for example a big poster of famous players, which will be normally taken to posted on the wall?

Or 3) Do you think that the sport magazine that you are reading is too expensive!!

This is a kind of questions that I have when reading or have to buy sport magazines and this is the reason why I write this article as I can see that there might be some other people who has the same problem. So now here are the guidelines on how to choose your sport magazine from my opinion and I hope that they will be useful for some of you who looking for an ideal ones.

Find your favourite section.

Many time that I bought a whole sport magazine just because of I love to read only one section. It is unnecessary that when you decide to buy a sort magazine and you have to love entire of the magazine. And that's is enough for them to be your ideal sport magazine. For example I have a football magazine called "Star Soccer" which I love to read only one section in them, which written by my favourite writer and I keep continue to buy it over and over. So let's find your most favourite in the magazine, which you think that they have some thing that worth your money.

Be on your own, not depends on other.

What I am talking about is do not buy any of sport magazine just be cause your friends bought it. There might be some case that you buy the magazine because of your friend and you do not want to out of trend. This is really a mistake! You have to find your own style and find out what kind of sport that you love to play and a good sport magazine. Buy a magazine, which you really have no idea what they have inside is a big mistake and waste of your time and money

Affordable price

This is really hard to explain about why you have to choose magazine that has reasonable price. This is because usually one person will have at least two sport magazines of which they will be available on monthly basis. This means you have fix cost for those magazines which you have to buy every month and this cost a lot of money. So ca you imagine about how much you have to spend if you have more than two magazines to buy each month. I am suggest this on behalf of a person who are not rich and just want to buy something that really worth value of money, so please make some calculations before decide to choose your favourite sport magazine

Women's Health Big Book of Exercises Review

The Women's Health Big Book of Exercises is presented as an ultimate go-to resource for women looking to get in shape. Inside you will find 619 exercises, 100 core exercises, 74 biceps, triceps, and arm exercises, 64 different ways to work your chest, 103 different back exercises, 40 shoulder exercises, and 167 exercises for your legs and butt.

The question is - volume of content aside, is this book useful, easy to understand, easy to navigate, and just all around worth your time?

Here is a summary of what you will find inside -

Chapter 1 discusses the myriad of reasons women should lift weights. Topics covered include why weight lifting burns more calories and fat, how weight lifting improves one's health, and reasons weight lifting may improve your mood and how you feel about yourself. Many readers are likely to be familiar with some of the benefits of weight lifting, but not all, and many may learn for the first time the actual reasons behind many of the benefits.

Chapter 2 covers all the basics of lifting. In my opinion, this section goes beyond the basics. Many experts, books, and magazines are happy to tell you WHAT to do, but seldom do they explain WHY. This is a great section for anyone who is getting to the point where they want to know how to put together their own weight lifting or fitness training program. If you want to know how, how much, and how frequently to lift for muscle gains - it tells you. If you want to lift to burn fat instead, you learn exactly how many reps, how often, how much weight, and how quickly you should be lifting.

Chapter 3 - The World's Simplest 4 week diet. This chapter covers a simple nutrition plan to ensure fat loss. While many people like to make losing fat complicated, the process is as simple (or as hard) as eating fewer calories than you burn on a daily basis. The diet plan suggested in the Women's Health Big Book of Exercises is simply a higher protein, vegetable, and healthy fat program that suggests avoiding high calorie processed foods and any food high in carbohydrates (like bread, pasta, grains, and simple sugars.) Simply avoiding foods high in calories, like pasta and candy, can be enough to allow most people to eat fewer calories while eating the same volume of food. This makes it easier to eat less and still feel satisfied.

Chapters 4-10 cover specific body parts and how to train every major muscle group in that area effectively. Every chapter opens with the benefits of training the particular muscles discussed, The roles of every muscle are explained, the pictures are detailed (really really nice anatomical illustrations), and the exercises are photographed very nicely in full color.

Here is an example of how each chapter is structured -

First by major muscle group. The Chapter on the muscles of the back is divided into the exercised that work the upper back and the lats. Within each muscle section, exercises are further divided into major muscle movements - so in the section on the lats, you will find it divided into chinups/pullups, pulldowns and pullovers. The coverage given to training muscles on use - meaning the full range of motions - rather than just appearance is a significant improvement on most weight lifting books, and reflects the current trend in fitness towards "functional training.

Within each section on the major type of muscle motion you will find certain exercises are marked as "main movements" - these are the key exercises to master for that particular body part. Each "main movement" is then broken down into 10 or more variations (ways to make each exercise harder, easier, user different equipment, etc.)

Main exercises are those that are the most effective and useful at working a specific body part and specific way. This is a very useful feature. Too often people doing exercises that just repeat each other (overworking their muscles) or less effective exercises that don't really target the group they want to improve. This should solve that problem.

Additionally, there are also exercises highlighted as "the best exercise for x that you are NOT doing" - This is also a great feature. Sometimes the most commonly done exercises are NOT necessarily the most effective or safe. This feature instead points out less commonly used, but highly effective exercises.

At the end of each section you will also find the best stretch for each muscle listed.

At the end of every chapter you will find one or two specially designed programs that you can do just to improve that specific body part.

Chapter 11 covers Total Body Exercises. This chapter tells you how to take any major exercise and make it full body - working arms, legs, and core all at the same time. A good example would be a squat with shoulder press. There are about 14 exercises listed in this chapter.

Chapter 12 covers Warm up exercises. This is very comprehensive and there is a section at the end of the chapter to tell you how to "create your own warm up" by selecting exercises from specific categories.

Chapter 13 has the "best workouts for" programs. There are a lot of different programs listed. How to Get Back Into Shape, How to Lose the Last 10lbs, How to Fit into Your Skinny Jeans, How to Look Great in a Bikini, How to Look Great in Your Wedding Dress, etc etc. One of the greatest features of these programs is that each averages 12 weeks in length instead of the far more typical 30 day workout. Thirty days is simply not long enough for most people to see significant improvements. Each workout is then divided into 3 or 4 week phases. Each phase has a workout A, B, and sometimes C, which then the reader would want to alternate between each week. Essentially each workout program comes with six to 9 workouts.

Chapter 14 covers the best cardio workouts. This section is very basic as the focus of the book is primarily on weight lifting. However, one topic covered in this chapter is that of "finishers" which are brief, high intensity, cardio routines done with weights or body weight exercises after one's main workout in order to burn additional body fat and calories. This is a topic not covered in other books and may be of interest to intermediate to advanced readers

Who this book is for:

This is a great book to keep on hand as a reference. The intended reader level for "The Big Book of Exercises" is somewhere between highly motivated beginner and intermediate level. Anyone who is getting to the point where they want to start designing their own programs, working specific muscle groups every thoroughly, looking for new exercises, and anyone asking "Am I working x the best way possible?" etc would be very pleased with this book.

Is this book good for beginners? Yes and no. The teaching style of the book is excellent. Many readers will likely be able to learn just from reading and looking at the pictures how to correctly do an exercise. However, many beginners could be too overwhelmed by the choices inside. While the provided workouts are meant to provide simplicity, but a beginner may be better off with a book that focused on a high quality 3 month routine with each workout laid out month by month, chapter by chapter. Then, this book would function well as a reference on how to do specific exercises in your program, or modify a movement because it is too hard, or one does not have the exact equipment prescribed in one's main workout book.

Organic Gardening Magazine - 3 Aspects Of Organic Gardening Magazine!

The Organic Gardening magazine covers three aspects--

(1) History:

The year, 1930, saw the launch of a company called Rodale Inc. The company has been achieving milestone after milestone over the years, to become the largest publisher of any printed matter related to health and fitness today!

During the 1940s, J. I. Rodale realized that organic gardening was related to health too, and decided to create public awareness through a magazine titled "Organic Farming and Gardening". The first publication to be launched by the Rodale Press was in 1942.

Robert D. Rodale (son of J. I. Rodale) took charge of the magazine after his father's death in 1971. When the son was killed in a road accident in 1990, J. I. Rodale's daughter (Maria) was appointed as the leader of the company. The title of the magazine was changed by Maria. It is now known as Organic Gardening magazine.

Even today, this magazine enjoys maximum popularity as compared to other magazines devoted to organic gardening! The magazine is brought out as a bi-monthly, and the annual subscription is 25 dollars.

Publication of the Organic Gardening magazine is not confined to the US only; it is published in UK too. Here, the magazine is available as a monthly issue and the cover price is £ 2.65.

There is no other magazine devoted to organic gardens in the UK, except this one. Ask, and you will find the information in this publication--guides dedicated to in-depth knowledge about growth of plants, education about every aspect of gardening, research studies and views and reviews. The advice presented is practical in nature.

Following the latest trends, a site on organic gardens has also been set up. It is named Organicgardening.com. The web site is actually an online magazine on Organic Gardening that displays message boards, articles, clippings and slide shows for gardeners.

(2) The Organic Gardening magazine believes that organic gardening should be a fun activity even if the techniques used are not the same as those used in conventional gardens. Unlike normal gardens that believe in the use of synthetic materials, these gardens propagate the usage of organic materials (natural resources). Whatever is published is authentic and the latest in information.

(3) Delving inside the Organic Gardening magazine itself, each issue deals with varied topics--how to increase the area of the garden, new hybrid varieties of vegetables, ornamental plants and helping plants to survive in unusual locations and climates.

Advice is presented only after a thorough research has been conducted. It could be related to soil preparations, landscaping, wildlife gardening and a myriad other things. The bottom line is that all information is very timely!

There are interestingly titled features too--Organic Gardening Solutions, The Bird Friendly Back Yard, Compost Corner and Dig In, etc. Readers state that they can find "cool stuff to use, views and news" here! A section titled "Organic Watchdog" harps on policies put forth by the government. Political opinions are also expressed here! At least 4 to 5 articles will do per season.

Woman's Day Magazine

Woman's Day Magazine is focused on the average woman. This magazine was created for the everyday woman. It was made for the mid western mom who spends most days driving kids to school and sporting events who is always thinking about what to make for dinner that night, not the single executive who has never actually cooked anything before and whose biggest concern is how to get the new Gucci bag that is hot this season. Woman's Day magazine may not have the latest fashions or the biggest celebrity news, but it does cover the issues that the average woman is dealing with trying to balance a career, a home and a family.

Features in the Magazine

Woman's Day is published each month. It can be found at grocery stores, drug stores, discount stores and some department stores. The cover usually features food made from a recipe found inside that issue. The main features in the magazine include cleaning tips, health news, weight loss news, recipes and fast dinner ideas, makeup tips and budget friendly tips and articles. Most of the articles and sections of the magazine are focused on helping women to make their lives easier. Tips include things like how to clean your house in 15 minutes and dinner ideas on a budget.

Woman's Day was first published in 1931. It was made exclusively for the A$P grocery stores and was designed to provide meal ideas for customers. At this time it was also free. IN 1937 the magazine expanded to include crafts, home décor, health and childcare information and cost 2 cents. It was still only sold at A&P grocery stores. In 1958 A&P sold the magazine to Fawcett Publications. When Fawcett was sold in 1977 to CBS the magazine division was sold to Diamandis Communications. In 1988 the magazine again switched ownership becoming part of Hachette Filipachhi Medias.

The magazine now has a circulation of about 3,800,000 and publishes 17 issues a year. You can pick up a copy at various retail outlets now, not just A&P grocery stores. The magazine also has a website that publishes information from the magazine and extras for visitors. The website is reported to have almost as many visitors as the magazine has subscribers.

Woman's Day has continued to be a magazine for the housewife. It helps women by providing everyday tips on how to juggle everything in their life. The tips and articles in the magazine are designed to help make a woman's life easier. The magazine has not strayed at all from the original design, still offering great meal ideas and dinner solutions. This magazine is a staple that many women buy every month. It has never tried to compete with high end magazines and is offered at an affordable price. It is a real magazine for women who have more to worry about than what celebrities are doing and what the latest styles are. It is for the everyday gal who is just trying to raise a family and keep her home in order.

What Are You Working on Related to Your Health? (Part 2)

Now at the time I was living in NYC and considered myself a healthy person. I even began yoga alongside my diagnosis, was an avid gym-bunny and ate well but there was more for me to do to really clean house. Now "those fingers" were pointing back at me demanding I get to work -- the "real" work. I quickly shifted by letting go of various pollutants -- smoking (anything), drinking alcohol, eating junk foods, red meat and refined sugars. I began to listen to my body, asking questions to discover what healing was in health food stores and healing centers. Overall, I do pretty well with change but mostly when it's by my choosing. Now, I was being influenced to change the habits of what was no longer helping me and was afraid of what would be uncovered. When change comes from another source we resist the unknown and hold on to what might even be bad for us just for the mere comfort of it. This was a huge part of my learning to accept this diagnosis, change my way of fighting for life and open to the

By looking inside with an honest eye I saw how I built an outer persona to cover up a past that was ailing me. Ironically, I was wearing $5000 designer outfits to hide what was essentially crumbling inside. Just think of building a mansion on a swap -- not a good idea. After changing my eating habits then I took my internal inventory. Here I brushed up against gnarly feelings of being unworthy, depressed, a failure and felt totally alone. I could say the "dis-ease" caught up to me but really it stood in front of me guiding me to change my life direction; a perfect crossroads met with great resistance that led to powerful openings. I was blessed to be a seeker and find others who could help me to take steps leading me to where I am today. It took every bit of my being to stay strong and learn what I had to let go of without losing myself to this "diagnosis". I was working on this new project called Me. There was another monumental gift to gain, which was an intimate relationship with my greatest enemy -- myself. For many of us we loose touch with the best friend we have inside and focus on feeding the enemy that lives within and without realizing it.

Each day I am still amazed to see that my diagnosis of MS has offered me numerous gifts, teachings and blessings in every area of my life. Back in the doctor's office, where my life shifted when I roared NO, I learned a powerful teaching that I always have a choice. My choice to be involved with my process of healing was going to take more than doctors, medicine and relying on the world outside of me. What brought me even closer to myself were teachers that showed up in many forms -- self-help books, healers, yoga teachers, meditation and life itself being the greatest of them all.

I found my home in this "new" world that co-existed with modern medicine. And it never made much sense to me then why they functioned more like parallel universes. It was powerful for me to learn that our thoughts are food and that they have a direct effect on the state of our health. For me Health means more than the food we eat, it contains everything including our thoughts, environment, lifestyle, and relationships. The list keeps growing and ultimately brings us back to the question, What are you working on? And the answer is still -- ME!

Action Steps:
Take time to get quiet, even better find time in nature. Then meditate on the questions to see what comes up for you and trust it.
1. What are your fingers pointing back for you to look more deeply at? Are you able to detect your call to action?

2. What do you feel you could do better to heal more in your life now? Are you ready to make the change before you feel pushed to make it? What can you let go of?

3. Are you ignoring a part of yourself that is crying to help by piling more stuff on it??? Are you ready to commit to look inside accepting what you see and then promise to take action every day to assist in your healing process?

Raw Food Health

The interest in raw food health is growing. What do I mean by "raw food health?" Simply that amazing positive changes in health can often be achieved when one turns to a diet that consists mostly of raw vegetables and fruits.

Is there any evidence of this? There sure is.

Disease happens inside the human body for various reasons. There are causes for disease. And the cause just may be with the foods we're eating.

I've been privileged to discover the human body can often rid itself of much disease ... in an almost miraculous way. If you know anyone who is now battling disease then there is hope ... in the same way there was hope for tens of thousands of individuals who found out the same thing I did.

Somewhere back in the mid-1990s, my mother-in-law came to our house for a visit. She set a magazine in front of me about health and nutrition and said she was amazed by its contents, especially the testimonials.

Apparently, individuals in the magazine claimed they were totally healed from all types of diseases, including things like cancer, diabetes, lupus and severe arthritis ... after simply changing their diet.

"Uh Huh," I thought to myself. "Sure they were. It's nothing more than quackery, except this form of delusion was coming under the guise of nutrition instead of some 'magic potion' sold inside a bottle."

Since I'd always thought myself to be a healthy eater I perused the reading material out of curiosity ... especially the stories. What I read almost seemed fictional, especially considering the severity of the diseases, depth of sicknesses and reported miraculous healings.

There were some things within the material, however, that seemed plausible. For instance, the notion a person's immune system could be suppressed because of poor nutrition, which could then lead to sickness.

Accepting that idea, however, opened the door for more questions: Could a proper diet cause a person's immune system to begin functioning at an optimal level? Could the diseased condition then be reversed if it were brought about by poor nutrition or a suppressed immune system?

My initial skepticism about the material was taken over by thoughts of theoretical plausibility. The stories in the magazine certainly conveyed a hint of truthfulness in them. There did seem to be some evidence (at least on the surface) that there may be more of a connection between diet and disease than most people -- myself included - ever considered.

At the very least, this magazine offered some interesting ideas to consider. I couldn't help but think to myself how great it would be if there was some degree of genuineness within its pages.

How wonderful it would be if tens of thousands of individuals now sick with terrible diseases could get well ... simply by changing from their present diet to one that consisted primarily of raw "living" foods!

My interest in raw food health has continued to grow in recent years. Eventually I was moved to interview people who had experienced the type of jaw-dropping health change that often comes with the adoption of a raw diet. While there is no uniformity of agreement among health professionals on this, or any other, subject. It's hard to argue with the testimonies of individuals who have experienced the truth of raw food health in their own lives.

Online Magazines, You Can Believe Them!

Blog, blog, blog, everyone wants to blog. What exactly is a blog? For the most part, a blog is just someone telling a story about someone or something or some place or some activity or some event. That is basically what a blog is. Most blogs have a way that the reader can communicate with the writer of the blog, but sometimes that option is simply not available. What makes blogs interesting is that writers can use their own slang language, whether that is pig-Latin or some other form of language that the writer invents. Even better than that, the writer of a blog can write in a foreign language no matter where he is situated at the time. The basic idea is that the writer goes to the site, provides an email address and then writes his own little stories of life and whatever is in between life and death. Yes, some write about death also. Bloggers will and do write about anything on earth.

Many times bloggers use their space to complain and gripe about the world and its' processes. People will write blogs and complain about the weather, about work, about school, about storms, tragedies, about kitchen equipment. Whatever is around in life bloggers find the way and the means to complain about it in a blog. And, watch out if someone has a beef with you, you just might see the beef online on the net. You will read blogs about people's bosses and people's families and anything at all remotely connected to the writers. And on the other hand, you might see some educational blogs, where some would like to teach others academic lessons. That is the wonderful part of the net that you can see and hear just about anything and everything. (You can hear some blogs if they add videos or audio pieces). Now, just because writers are able to write about almost anything that does not mean that you have to read about everything. After all, not everyone is interested in every subject on earth. And think about it, not everyone is interested in Jack's boss or Joan's uncle. Some write about their personal relationships and others write about their operations. If you see it in the world, you most likely will see it in the area of blogs.

So, what makes the difference between an ordinary blog that anyone (with an email account) can write and an online magazine or literature or academic website? There are many differences, but the largest, most obvious difference between blogs and magazines is the fact that bloggers generally can and will use any language and any type of language (even if such a language is non-existent) that they want to use. Really, no joke, a blogger can make a language up and write in that language. I am not saying that anyone might even read such a blog, but I am stating the possibilities. And it is quite possible that a blogger can make up a language and write in his made-up language. And, that is entirely acceptable by the company that set up the blogger's account. Basically there is no approval process in the blog area of writing. If a blogger wants to write FLUFF, then a blogger writes FLUFF. If a blogger wants to write lies, then a blogger writes lies. There is no approval and no denial process when you are writing or publishing a blog.

Blogs and Online Magazines are Very Different:

  1. Bloggers can write any words they want to write, whether they are true, misspelled false, or whether they are even words or not.
  2. Many times, more than not, usually the blogger is trying to impress someone by writing in a blog.
  3. Blog writings are published almost instantly or as fast as your computer can digest it.
  4. Online magazines are more organized in the fact that, usually, there are chapters, and sections and many detailed divisions that writers can write into.
  5. Online magazines have an official approval or denial process (rules and regulations about which types of writings they will approve or not). (Companies that service and publish blogs have a TOS (terms of service), but many times, bloggers ignore these TOS and some do get away with ignoring them and that leads to more inaccuracies in blogging. Yet, if you want more accurate and truthful information, you might want to go to an online magazine instead of going to a blog. (Yes, there are some blogs that are accurate but for the most part, blogs are usually written for fun or for complaints, rather than for any other serious purposes.
  6. Online magazines are slower, and the approval process could take a day to ten days or more, depending on the online magazine.
  7. Some blogs have spell-check available but most online magazines have spell-check available.
  8. Generally in a blog you can talk and say, "dems and dose --thems and those" and all sorts of fractures of the English language and phrases.
  9. An online magazine is a little more formal in that most of the language is correct English or correct in some other language.
  10. Generally online magazines are more respected and or more accurate than most blogs (due to their approval processes.
  11. Many times in blogs you might see discouraging or even obnoxious remarks in the comments section and some blog writers allow that kind of writing to stay there in their blog.
  12. In most reputable magazines, you will not see anyone calling anyone names or typing derogatory remarks about anyone. just for the sake of complaining. (For example, you might see an article about a defective automobile part in an online magazine but you might see a blog writing about an auto mechanic that the blog writer thinks is "bullish" or "fat" . Do you see the difference? Usually the online magazines are about facts, education, information, and progress, where most blogs (unless they are specialized for education or health) are mere vehicles of complaints and similar actions.

Some blogs are different than personal blogs. There are blogs that corporations set up or that groups set up for personal training or for sharing experience. Recently I came across a blog that was about crimes committed against the disabled. Now, though this is a blog, it is quite a serious one, that is filled with good information, and facts. So probably since some sites have approval systems and or censorship, censorship would be the biggest difference in a blog and an online magazine. You probably could write that Jim is a jerk in side a blog but probably could not write that in an online magazine (unless the name of the magazine was All About Jim)
You, the reader, need to decipher whether you came to read a blog or an online magazine or both. But know when you are reading a blog, that not everything inside a blog is true. Most times in an online magazine, you might see references or notations which will point to the writer of quotes and other statements in the magazine. In a blog, on the other hand, you might see a writing such as , "Mary chopped the cherry tree down in front of my home and I yelled and yelled at her ". Now, the reader reads that and might think, "wow, Mary is naughty for doing that". However, the educated reader says to himself or herself, "Wonder if that is true; after all it sounds like hearsay and after all it is just written in someone's blog".

Yes, you must question the truth always, especially if you do not know the writer. So, question things whether you read them in a blog or in an online magazine. Question everything when it comes to important things. It has been my experience that a lot of the seemingly facts that are written in most blogs are not as exact as the writer would want you to think. So, again, question and question. Never let someone's gossip page change your mind or convince you of something that happened or did not happen. Judge for yourself.

The best blogs are supported by online magazines or by other resources or printed material. As a professional, if I had to make the choice of a blog or online magazine, I would choose the magazine first and write the blog later on.

Some Blogs are Good: The purpose of this article is not to discourage anyone from writing a blog. On the contrary, I encourage everyone to have their own blog. The purpose is to remind individuals and groups that not everything that you read in blogs is the truth. I just wanted to remind the reader that when and if they read something damaging or seriously libelous inside a blog, they need to stop, pause and really think about the process of how that information was obtained and printed. The reader needs to discern whether the blog writer has a grudge against someone or if the so-called facts inside the blog are true or false. That is all this article is about. I remind everyone that if you read something about your Aunt Tilley or about the Secretary of State or about your neighbor inside a blog and if that writing is strewn with angry , upsetting or libelous words, then you know that there is cause for pause. Then pause only long enough to figure out what the real truth is.

In this day and age, just because of quickness and just because everything wants everyone right away, we tend to just read and believe. I am writing to urge people to read and to think. Yes, stop to think. Ask yourself important questions about the writing. And then decide for yourself what you believe is true. Sometimes it helps to check sources, references and or footnotes or even check far back into the referenced literature, but do check. Anyone with an email address can publish almost anything inside a blog. Even people without email addresses can write for blogs if they have a friend who will furnish an email address to them temporarily . Blogs serve a purpose and online magazines serve another purpose. So, choose which one works best for you. If you want to use slang, or make up your own words, then blogging might be the way to go. If you want to have a professional website, be accountable for what you write and print, and if you want to know exactly how many readers you have, then perhaps online magazines, with special features and additions, might be the way for you to go. Choose carefully and wisely and you will be most successful and productive in reaching your goals.

So what are the other differences between blogs and online magazines? There are many other differences. I will get into the other differences in a later article about blogs and online magazines. Most blogs are free and many journals and magazines online are free. I have not yet seen a blog that permits you to automatically make a widget for your articles and yet online magazines, most, have this feature. Some online magazines have single buttons to press for you to print an article or for you to make copies of the article for your own benefit. The differences between a blog and an online magazine are as different as night and day. Decide which one serves your purpose and open that kind of an account.

Abs Diet for Health and Fitness

The most important question that comes to everyone's mind is why so many gyms, health centers, health programs etc have popped up all over the place? The main reason is that people want to look and feel good. Particularly looks play an important role though health is not any less. Nobody wants to carry an extra layer of fat around the waistline and a firm flat belly is everyone's dream.

To succeed in getting a flatter stomach, diet is essential. Not only the success of flatter stomach depends on diet but also a good abs diet lowers cholesterol and decreases blood pressure. The food listed below should be incorporated in your diet plan:

• Almonds and other nuts, this will increase HDL

• Green vegetables like Spinach and broccoli

• Beans and other legumes, including chickpeas, kidney beans and lima beans

• Dairy products like yoghurt, cheese, low-fat milk

• Eggs

• Turkey, chicken, fish and lean meat

• Whole grain breads

• Berries, especially raspberries

The above mentioned food should be part of diet for good health and good looks. The most important thing is that you should never feel hungry and provide your body with daily nutritional requirements. The above mentioned food will provide the required amount of protein, carbohydrates and fat. Taken in moderate but adequate quantities they will never let you feel hungry. Good diet coupled with abs exercise will give you the flat stomach.

There are many popular weight loss programs that discourage taking carbohydrate. But you should realize that if you venture into any exercise including 6 pack abs, carbohydrates should be included in your diet. It provides energy essential for your body and mind. Carbohydrate gets converted into glucose and it gets consumed during physical activity. Excess glucose gets converted into glycogen which gets stored in lever. The glycogen stored in lever gets consumed whenever it is needed. Only excess glycogen gets converted into fat. So don't be scared of carbohydrate. Avoid carbohydrate if your doctors recommends.

David Zinczenko of Men's Health Magazine has developed an abs diet which has helped men across America get more than ripped abs. The followers of his program have improved their overall health manifold.

Now something must be mentioned about dietary fat. Mike Geary, famous nutritionist, in his book, "Training & Nutrition Insider Secrets for a Lean-Body" wrote, "Don't be Afraid of Dietary Fat! Even Some Saturated Fats are Healthy for You."

Good abs diet program coupled with abs exercise will give you the flat stomach.

Health-Fitness Articles Can Be Useful

It's one of the great ironies of modern living that although there seems to be a raging epidemic of obesity and its terrible twin sisters: heart disease and diabetes, we are ever more obsessed with the whole subject of keeping fit. But then again perhaps it's not so ironic after all. In our grandparent's day, there was a lot more physical hard work to do. Labor saving devices that we take for granted these days were not available and what's more, people tended to die at a younger age in those days from infectious diseases. Hence our modern concern with keeping in shape and reading the ever growing numbers of health and fitness articles that seem to be available on the magazine racks of our local stores.

I have to say however, that looking at the covers of some of the more popular health and fitness publications does tend to dampen my enthusiasm. The people featured on those covers seem to be from another planet inhabited by the toned, the muscular and the incredibly beautiful. If you don't allow yourself to be put off however, and take a look at some of the health and fitness articles inside the magazines you are sure to pick up some really useful tips on how to get ahead in your quest for a better life style.

Here are a few of the more important tips that I've gleaned from having read countless numbers of health and fitness articles over the years. Perhaps the most important thing to take into account, according to the fitness experts, is be careful. Yes it sounds a bit boring, but if you are going to take on any fitness regime, make sure to get the go ahead from your doctor if you have any prior medical condition.

Always start your new exercise regime in a gentle, easygoing fashion. After all, it takes time for your body to adapt, especially if you are not that fit to begin with. Talk about boredom: now isn't that just one of the greatest problems when it comes to exercising? But here's a great tip: only choose a form of exercise which gives you some real personal satisfaction if you are to avoid getting fed up and end up giving up the whole thing after a few days. Try and set yourself some modest goals and the sheer satisfaction of achieving something will ensure you keep going.

There's been an explosion in the numbers of health and fitness articles, books and T.V. shows in recent years. Perhaps it would be easy to be cynical about all this and assume that it's just another money-making racket. But, I must admit I've found some great gems of information which have been of real benefit over the years. So get going with your new fitter way of living and who knows? You may well end up looking like one of those toned models on the cover of a health and fitness magazine.

Publishers, Have You Tried Polywrapping Magazines?

A fantastic method of protecting and enhancing a magazine is by the use of a process called polywrapping. The fact is that polywrapping magazines is a very popular finish in the publishing sector.

If you are wondering what the process is, it simply the name given to function in which a magazine is actually enveloped in polythene.

There are numerous benefits for example as well as providing robust protection from scuffing and also water damage polywrapping provides the magazine publishers with the opportunity to explore a number of pack formats. Each one of these can be used by the owner to make their titles stand out more than their competitors and as a result they will hopefully sell more copies.

The use of printed film is classic example of a way in which a magazines profile can be enhanced. Now days it is possible to print in full including what are known in print circles as 'special colours' on to the surface of the polythene. As a result it is not uncommon to see high resolution photographs and graphics that really catch the eye.

Another option open for publishers is for the inclusion of promotional gifts which can affixed inside the pack. These can either be nested inside the magazine or glued to the front cover. Typically these give-aways will be either a CD or DVD as they are nice and flat and therefore comply with the Royal Mails sized based pricing policies.

Although I have known of a company who insisted that even though the bulky first aid dressing they gave away with each addition of their health and safety magazine dramatically increased the postage costs, the massive increase in sales received as a result more than compensated for the difference.

Everything I Know I Learned From Magazines

Hello friends. Do you ever wonder why there is never enough time or money to do the things you know deep down you'd like to do? To decorate your homes, travel, invest wisely, sculpt your body, add romance or raise your children without resorting to methods more commonly associated with members of the animal kingdom?

I'll tell you why. You're not reading enough magazines! This weekend I corrected every problem I've ever had with my life not to mention 74 I didn't even know I had - simply by reading magazines at the bookstore.

You were on my mind the entire time. In fact I made a list of the most significant, life transforming articles you'll ever have the great fortune of reading, assuming you can find them between the ads.

Transforming your life does require a bit of work so before we get started, I suggest you read Lifetime Magazine's "5 Secrets Of Nonstop Energy" first. Better do it now. I'll wait.

Wow, you look positively radiant. Let's get physical.

If you need an exercise plan that doesn't require more than a half-hour, consider Fitness Magazine's "Single, Best 20 Minute Workout". While I'm sure it is the best, otherwise they wouldn't say that, I went with Outside Magazine's "The Only 10 Workouts You'll Ever Need". Exercise ten times and then be in shape forever? I'm in.

Many articles allow you to transform your physical appearance quickly. If you have only minutes to spare, Allure Magazine offers "Kicked Back Beauty - 2-Minute Hair And Makeup". If you have but one minute, there's "The Minute A Day Method To Perfect Shape", from Jane Magazine and if you have no minutes, Women & Home Magazine shows you how to "Look 5 Years Younger Now", Men's Fitness provides "30 Ways To Look Great Right Now", and Self Magazine authoritatively offers "The # 1 Way To Look Prettier Instantly."

If time isn't an issue but having a number of options is, I suggest "789 Great Health, Sex, Fitness & Nutrition Tips", from Men's Health, "546 Style Trends For You", from Perfect Hair Magazine, "200 + New Looks For You", from Seventeen, "42 Muscle Building Meals", from Men's Fitness, "25 Fat Burning Shortcuts", from Exercise And Health, "9 Ways To Dine Out And Lose Weight", from Allure, and "5 Sandwiches That Build Muscle", from Muscle And Fitness.

To show how these articles have already altered my life, before I read "5 Sandwiches That Build Muscle", I used to make sandwiches without any strategy whatsoever and built muscle by carrying my kitchen table to the park, eating my sandwich there and then hauling the table home again. All that time wasted and never knowing how little I knew about love.

To enhance your romantic skills, I suggest you first read "Find Your Signature Scent" in Body & Soul Magazine. Every little edge helps, particularly if you're a man --because magazines make it clear that there is nothing as mysterious and unknown as women.

Before reading "187 Things You Don't Know About The Other Sex" in Esquire, "11 Sex Dreams You Need To Know About" in Cosmopolitan UK Edition, "8 Ways To Reignite Post Partum Passion" in Pregnancy Magazine, "7 Myths That Could End Your Marriage" in Psychology Today and "The 31 Sex & Love Thrills No Women Should Miss Plus 6 Bedroom "Musts" You Can Skip" in Glamour -- you may wonder as I once did -- if the Hubble Telescope is pointed in the right direction. Have no fear. They've explained everything there is to know and now that all women's secrets have been revealed, I suggest all of us (that includes men and women!) focus on beautifying and organizing our homes.

If the inside of your house is a mess, I suggest you start with the outside. If there are no bodies of water on the property, you won't want to miss "10 Reasons Why You Need A Pond" from Ponds USA. I was hooked as soon as I read reason number 3, "It's a great place to conceal old tires, rusted lawn furniture and the occasional murder victim." For those of you who have a backyard but are no longer elated when standing in it, Do Magazine humbly offers "3 Ways To Enjoy Your Backyard".

Turning our attention inside, Oprah Magazine shows you how to get outside again with "Stop Morning Chaos. 12 Ways To Get Out The Door Quicker".
